Welcome to Art!
My name is Nicole Schermerhorn and this is my third year teaching art at Hartman Elementary. You can find me pushing my cart around the halls and into classrooms each week. When the school day is over, I like to spend my time cooking dinner, hanging out with my cat, Norman, and reading. This year will be busy for me, as my fiancé and I are beginning to plan our wedding! My weekends are usually spent hanging out with my friends and family, going to movies, and attending community events. I love to travel! I've been fortunate enough to spend the last two summers in Europe exploring different cultures and art.
Our art curriculum has some big ideas for students to wrap their heads around this year:
K- Who is an artist?
1st- Artists tell stories.
2nd- Artists explore materials & cultures.
3rd- Artists live & work within a community.
4th- Artists use a visual language.
5th- Artists interpret social & historical influences on American art.
6th- Artists acquire a world view.
My favorite part of the school year has to be Thursdays for Teachers. This is a program offered by the Joslyn Art Museum which gives teachers an opportunity to explore the museum, listen to guest speakers, and learn how to incorporate meaningful art lessons into our classrooms. My goal is to have perfect attendance so I can earn more framed art prints for our collection at Hartman. Keep in mind that the Joslyn's permanent collection is always FREE to visit! I'm sure if you planned at trip with your child they would be able to teach you so many new things about what we've learned in class! Joslyn Art Museum Omaha
